The Leads Discovery & Optimization (LDO) is a dynamic organization that supports the entire continuum of drug discovery (from lead identification to clinical candidate delivery) at Bristol Myers Squibb. The organization leverages state of the art technologies, complemented by deep subject matter expertise and broad scientific knowledge, to deliver innovative and comprehensive preclinical in vitro datasets to support our drug discovery pipeline in disease areas such as cell therapy, oncology, immunology, fibrosis and cardiovascular diseases.
The Biochemistry & Biophysics Team in Lead Discovery & Optimization at Bristol Myers Squibb in Cambridge is seeking a highly motivated mass spectrometry specialist for a Scientist position. The successful candidate will apply mass spectrometry to characterize recombinant proteins, study protein modifications and degradations, and develop analytical methods for small molecule detection to characterize biochemical reactions and interrogate small molecule inhibition of enzymes. An ideal candidate would also have some experience in biophysical characterization of protein and protein-small molecule interactions via mass spectrometry using techniques such as HDX-MS
Responsibilities:
Develop, optimize, validate, trouble shoot, and execute protein characterization, modification, and degradation experiments using mass spectrometry
Develop, optimize, validate, trouble shoot, and execute biochemical and biophysical assays on the interaction of recombinant proteins with small molecule inhibitors/binders using mass spectrometry
Maintain mass spectrometry equipment to ensure good working order
Perform plate-based biochemical and biophysical assays as needed
Analyze and report assay results to the corporate database and project teams
Technical Skills:
Ph.D. degree, a M.S. degree with at least 2 years of experience
Solid training and hands-on experience with quantitative LC-MS and LC-MS/MS analysis of recombinant proteins and protein modifications and degradations in cell-free environment and cell cultures
Solid training and hands-on experience with quantitative LC-MS and LC-MS/MS analysis of small molecule transformation in enzymatic reactions and protein-small molecule interaction matrices
Experience and understanding of separation techniques to isolate molecules of interest
Training with software needed for data analysis and interpretation
Experience with plate-based biochemical and biophysical assays and analysis of enzyme inhibition data and binding isotherms is a strong plus
Familiarity with MALDI MS and/or high throughput screening is a plus
