Pay Band – 8

Salary – £33,904 – £41,309
Contract Type – Fixed Term Contract until 31 March 2023.
Location – UK Only

Role Purpose:

The Head of Education leads the implementation of complex, high-value, education programmes in Wales funded by clients, other partners and the British Council grant.
They lead and develop our education contract activity including our full cost recovery contract work, ensuring quality and compliance with British Council standards.

You will have an oversight of education activities in Wales and will lead the education team, managing and working closely with a range of internal and external stakeholders in the UK and overseas.

They provide strategic leadership for the British Council’s education work in and for Wales to ensure that our programme is aligned with British Council, Welsh Government and education sector priorities in Wales.

You will provide education sector expertise at a country level and feed relevant insight up to the Country Director, Regional Director UK & External Relations and colleagues across Cultural Engagement.

You will be an important part of the Wales’ leadership team as well as the education teams in UKR and Cultural Engagement and represent our education work externally.

Over the last 20 years, devolution has taken decision making and accountability closer to the people of Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland. In addition to our strategic alignment with FCDO and HMG priorities, we are committed to supporting the relevant international ambitions of elected Governments in Cardiff, Belfast and Edinburgh. Our constitutional arrangements are under stress and there are challenges to the Union. Leaving the EU and COVID-19 have accentuated strains in relationships between the four Governments of the United Kingdom, which are made up of different political complexions, with no sign of that changing in the near future.
