Location:

John Paul Adult Services provides a combination of campus and community based services to adults with varying support needs, based on personal outcome measures. Our services are currently undergoing a transition from a campus based service to community living, where we aim to create opportunities for the people we support to be valued citizens in their communities and to have everyday life experiences.

Our focus is to form a partnership with the people we support and their families to ensure each individual lives their best life. Candidates need to be flexible and adapt to the needs of particular individual’s they support on a daily basis.

The Role:

The Team Leader has a pivotal role in managing the day to day delivery of services. The successful candidate must provide leadership and vision in the development of the service in line with HIQA National Standards, New Directions, Personal Outcomes Measures and participate actively in any future service developments.

Service Coordinator / Area Manager

Qualifications/Experience/Skills:

• A current live Register Certificate with NMBI (An Bord Altranais) is an essential requirement, RNID/RMHN qualification is desirable.
• Candidates must have a minimum of 3 years post qualification experience gained in services for people with intellectual disabilities.
• Experience of working with individuals who have complex medical needs is a requirement of the job. Experience in a management role is desirable.
• Candidates should be able to demonstrate leadership, communication and team working skills and be a flexible and dynamic individual who will relate to people in a range of situations with an understanding of and commitment to the principles of public accountability as they apply in the health service.
• Candidates must have a full clean driving licence.
• Fluency in verbal and written English is an essential requirement of this post.

Working Hours:
75 hours a fortnight based on either a 5 or 7 day duty roster. For the day service position normal working hours will be over 5 days however flexibility will be required in order to meet service needs. A commitment to providing Senior Person cover within the centre is an essential requirement of this post. The Brothers of Charity model of service is based on Personal Outcome Measures requiring employees to be flexible in their working hours to provide a quality service delivery for each individual.

Annual Leave:
25 days per annum. Service Related Leave will be granted after 5 and 10 years nursing service.

Remuneration:

Department of Health (01/10/2022 salary scales) CNM1 salary scale – €50,915 x 7 increments – €59,961 per annum.

Probation:

A probationary period of nine months from the date of appointment applies to the post. The employment may be terminated at any time during the probationary period should the employer find that the appointee is unsuitable to continue employment. The probation period may be extended at the Employer’s discretion.

Tenure:

These posts are permanent full-time and pensionable.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Brothers of Charity model of service is based on Personal Outcome Measures requiring employees to be flexible both in their approach, and in their working hours to provide a quality service delivery for each individual.
Specific Conditions

• Staff must treat each person with an intellectual disability as an individual, and at all times acknowledge and respect the rights and personal dignity of the person.
• Staff are required to establish and maintain relationships with adults with disabilities that are based on respect and equality and that promote their independence.
• The Team leader will work as a frontline member of the team with protected time to carry out specific team leader duties.

Main duties, functions and responsibilities:
Team Member Responsibilities and Relationships:

• Be an active member of the team working frontline with the people we support to achieve outcomes and develop to their full potential.
• Actively lead all staff members attached to the team, including taking responsibility for daily duty rosters, time keeping and attendance. Develop and support good team working dynamics within the team.
• Coordinate transport timetables.
• Develop and foster good relationships with people supported by the services, families, work colleagues and members of the multi-disciplinary team. Co-operate on all aspects of the people supported by the services care including health care.
• Assist in formulating, implementing and evaluating service plans in co-operation with the multidisciplinary team and other team members under the direction of the Service Coordinator.
• Manage, promote and engage in community integration.
• Ensure that appropriate records are kept to enable full reports on the people we support to be available to the multidisciplinary staff and Service Coordinator. Update OLIS, Hazard, Personal Outcomes, AIRS and other databases as needed.
• Carry out Audits and training with the team as needed in areas such as Client Protection, Fire Evacuation.
• Keep abreast of changes in IT, including adapting to changes on our recording and storage of records i.e. Adest
• Support the development and piloting of innovative and alternative models of Service delivery.

Leadership and Management:

• Provide leadership and direction for all members of the team to ensure good practice according to policy.
• Assist in managing all resources efficiently and effectively within agreed budget. Keep records of all matters relating to finance for the centre. Conduct audits on financial spending by other team members.
• Plan and provide support on the day to day operation and development of the service; within the Team Based Performance Management framework. Hold and record regular team meetings.
• Take responsibility for ensuring staff cover in the case of absenteeism. Adhere and follow the attendance management guidelines, and provide support to team members following an absence.
• Provide induction for new staff assigned to the Team as required.
• Provide supportive supervision to staff in the service where appropriate and appraise staff performance as required. Give one to one staff support where necessary and maintain relevant records on this.
• Provide support, manage and resolve problems within the team when appropriate.
• Facilitate team building and staff motivation.
• Participate in the identification, development and delivery of education, training and development programmes for staff.
• Assist in supervising and assessing volunteers and students as required.
• Lead and implement change.
• Be proactive and take an active part in future service planning, development and delivery.

Health, Safety and Hygiene Responsibilities:

• Provide leadership and direction for all members of the team to ensure that high standards of cleanliness and decor are maintained according to the service’s hygiene policy at all times.
• Ensure in conjunction with relevant staff that effective safety procedures are developed and managed to comply with the statutory obligations
• Be aware of and become familiar with Fire Drill procedures within the centre i.e. fire detection, evacuation and fire fighting. Carry out and record Fire Drills as required by Organisational Policy.
• Complete all relevant Health and Safety checks on FLEX and other relevant databases.
• Be conscious of Health & Safety matters in the workplace and, in particular, to comply with employees’ obligations as set out under Chapter 2 of the Safety, Health & Welfare at Work Act, 2005.
• Ensure that all accidents/incidents to people supported by the services, staff or visitors are reported in accordance with Service policy and that all staff members are fully aware of the contents of the Safety Statement for the centre.
• Carry out any Risk Assessments where identified in terms of dangers in the centre or where restrictions are in place for any of the people we support.
• Participate in the cleaning and household responsibilities and ensure that all areas are maintained to a high standard of hygiene.

Personal Outcomes Responsibilities:

• Manage individual supports to the highest professional standards; using evidence based planning approach such as individual personal outcomes for each of the people supported by the services.
• Actively support Key Worker’s in their endeavours to achieve priority goals for the people we support.
• Assist the people we support in making informed decisions.
• Facilitate individual planning and review meetings.
• Record Annual Plans and update all plans and reviews onto the Personal Outcomes Database.

General Responsibilities:

• Ensure strict confidentiality in all matters concerning the people supported by the services including the safe storage of reports and records.
• Evaluate and manage the implementation of best practice policy and procedures including the policies and procedures of the Brothers of Charity Services and operate within the policies and procedures of the Services in all aspects of your work.
• Promote dignity at work and show respect to the people we support, colleagues and stakeholders in the course of duty.
• Avail of all training and development opportunities that enhance this position.
• To drive/escort on service transport.
• Perform such other duties appropriate to the post as may be assigned from time to time by the Service Coordinator/Area Manager. All duties must be carried out in person at all times.

The role of the post holder will not be limited by reference to this job description.
