You will work closely with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs)/Training Providers, our Partner Trusts, Service Managers and Clinical Leads to increase the Allied Health Professional (AHP) and nursing supply through undergraduate degree courses, reduce attrition from training, and support further development of additional entry routes through the nursing associate qualification and apprenticeships in line with the NHS People Plan.
The role aims to enhance the quality of the practice learning environment and positively contribute to the development of a workforce that meets the demand of health and care services. The Clinical Educator and Placement Lead will lead on the quality of the clinical learning environment, promoting a culture of lifelong learning as being integral to clinical practice by providing support, educational input and development activities for pre and post registration learners and the staff supporting them within clinical areas across the Trust (Nursing and AHPs). You will support the Service Managers and Clinical leads in each service by providing a level of expert advice and support to all those involved with learners in their area.
You will lead on all clinical placements for the Trust, working collaboratively with the Trust’s Professional Education Manager. With an emphasis on increasing clinical placement activity you will be expected to use your initiative, influencing, analytical skills and judgement.

Job Purpose:

The Clinical Educator and Placement Lead will lead on the quality of the clinical learning environment for all learners by providing support, educational input and development activities for professional leads, practice educators / assessors / supervisors and all learners within clinical areas within the Trust. They will support Service Managers and Clinical leads in each service by providing a level of expert advice and support to all those involved with learners.
The Clinical Educator and Placement Lead will promote and sustain the development of a learning culture where both education and lifelong learning are seen as integral to clinical practice. The role aims to enhance the quality of the clinical learning environment and positively contribute to the development of a workforce that meets the demand of health and care services, promoting the role of being an educator as one of high value and status and contribute to the Trust being seen as a learning organisation.
The post holder will lead on all learner placements for the Trust and work collaboratively with the Trust’s Professional Education Manager. With an emphasis on increasing clinical placement activity, they will be expected to work collaboratively with the Clinical Placement Co-ordinator and Future Talent Advisor using their initiative, influencing, analytical and judgement skills to develop new and existing clinical placements and working autonomously to identified objectives.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
To lead on clinical professional education for the Trust and provide support for all employed learners undertaking healthcare education programmes and acting as the link with the HEI / Training Provider. Manage the effective partnership working between the practice placement areas and the HEIs / training providers, developing close working relationships internally and with external stakeholders.
Establish and explore strategies to enhance the clinical learning environment. Support practice assessors / supervisors / practice educators to facilitate the integration of theory and practice with learners as appropriate by being up to date with learner’s curriculum and understand the assessment process to support effective supervision, assessment and decision making.
Provide support to clinical areas where there are concerns relating to learners in practice or relating to the clinical learning environment. Raise awareness and understanding of diversity and inclusion across educator development activities to ensure an inclusive learning environment that will support all learners in practice.
To lead on the quality of the clinical learning environment and provide support for those assessing, supervising, and supporting learners across the Trust. Promote feedback and dialogue between the Trust and HEIs, report on data collection and analysis of feedback to internal and external stakeholders and ensure feedback is acted upon.
Deliver Practice Supervisor / Practice Assessor / Practice Educator training to ensure staff are up to date in order to provide high quality supervision and assessment to learners.
To act as a Practice Educator or Practice Assessor for learners undertaking professional healthcare programmes when required across the Trust, sometimes at short notice, to ensure the ongoing continuity of clinical placements.
To lead and implement new models of practice assessment and provision of training and support in developing the role of Practice Assessors / Supervisor/ Practice Educators through cascading training and skills development in conjunction with training providers / HEIs as required.
Lead and co-ordinate effective evidence collection systems for the Trust’s Quality Metrics, such as the Quality and Improvement Outcomes Framework for the NHS Funded Library and Knowledge Services and Quality Improvement Performance Framework (QIPF) reviews. Lead on the Trusts strategic plan and management of all learners’ placements within their designated areas including the allocation of practice assessors and practice educators.
To contribute to the recruitment processes for employed learners within the Trust with services and HEIs / Training Providers to ensure a quality learner workforce.
Facilitate forums with pre and post reg learners and for Practice educators and Practice Assessors.
To facilitate the audit of clinical placements and maintenance of the audit cycle across Trust services. Contribute to the development of policies and guidelines applicable to student placements and governance.
To deputise for the Professional Education Manager, as required sometimes at short notice, to include attendance to strategic ICS meetings across the Trust.
Communication:
Develop and maintain effective working relationships across the Trust with learners and those supporting learners, team leads, clinical leads and within the Professional Education team.
To develop relationships with partner organisations (e.g., HEIs and training providers) and raise awareness of the high quality student learning environment and learning opportunities for learners in community settings.
To ensure the Trust values and behaviours are communicated and embedded within the clinical placement environment for all learners.
Provide support to practice assessors / supervisors / practice educators and managers if a learner does not meet the required standards, to include cause for concern processes with HEIs/Training Providers.
Budgetary Responsibility:
Observes personal duty of care in relation to equipment and resources used in the course of work.
Perform authorised signatory function for those direct reports within the Professional Education team (excluding expenses)
People Management:
Responsible for day-to-day management and line management of key staff members within the Professional Education team
Maintaining own professional development and requirement to take part in annual objectives setting, mandatory training, annual appraisal and PDP process.
Responsible for Professional Body requirements.
Research & Development Activity:
Required to undertake R&D activity.
Clinical and Practice Governance
Observe and maintain strict confidentiality with regards to any patient/family/staff/records and information in line with the requirements of the Data Protection Act.
Any data that is taken/shared as part of a phone call or transported, faxed or transferred electronically must be undertaken with regard to the Trust Information Governance and Information Security policies.
The post holder must adhere to the Trust risk assessment and risk management processes.
The post holder must adhere to infection control policies and procedures.
It is a condition of your employment that you are currently registered with either the NMC or HCPC and it is your responsibility to maintain your professional registration.
Undertake mandatory training and any other training relevant to the role as required by Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust.
The post holder must participate in clinical and other audits as required.
The post holder is required to participate in relevant emergency preparedness process for their team.
General:
