Capstone Infrastructure Hiring For Contracts / Commercial Manager at Toronto, ON Full Time

Capstone is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Contracts / Commercial Manager to work with its development and construction teams. Reporting to the Vice President, Capital Project Execution, the Contracts / Commercial Manager will assist the development and construction teams with contract and commercial management from early development through construction and into operations. This role will be based in Capstone’s Toronto office and may require some travel to project sites or vendor offices across Canada.

The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in the infrastructure sector, and particularly in renewable energy projects.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support the project teams during the procurement and contracting process including developing scopes of work, procurement documentation, evaluating submissions, negotiating terms, and managing the final execution process
• Proactively manage contract-related correspondence and documentation and ensure contractual timelines are being met
• Develop and maintain processes and procedures for management of change during project execution
• Provide advice on contracting solutions and appropriate risk transfer measures
• Support the project teams with respect to insurance requirements, warranty obligations and monitoring of warranty compliance
• Ensure compliance with terms and conditions of regulatory agreements, lending agreements and financing arrangements
• Ensure that a formal risk management process is implemented on each project, including identifying risks, opportunities, mitigation plans and documenting mitigation efforts throughout the project’s lifecycle
• Support the defence of claims arising from contractors and vendors, review contractual entitlement, and evaluate claims fairly to ensure that the required level of substantiation and quantification is provided
• Educate and mentor project teams to ensure they understand the deliverables and obligations of contracts, agreements, and purchase orders
• Support the project teams with requirements for contract closeout
• Capture lessons learned and implement corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence on future projects
• Assist with preparation of regular status reports for management
• Perform other duties as assigned

Required Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications and Experience:

• Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Law, Quantity Surveying, Business, or a related field, or a combination of technical training and experience in contract management with knowledge/exposure to construction projects
• 10+ years of commercial management and contract administration experience working on large construction projects, preferably in Canada
• Detailed knowledge of construction/engineering industry contracting best practices
• Ability to negotiate contractual terms and conditions, and draft contractual wording
• Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
• Demonstrated work-ethic, positive team attitude, willingness to learn and ability to work successfully both independently and within a team in a fast-paced environment
• Demonstrates thoroughness, accuracy and attention to detail
• Computer proficiency in MS Office applications in particular – MS Project, MS Excel, MS Outlook
• Planning and time management skills including the ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks
• Interpersonal and communication skills
