Reporting to the Plant Manager, Operator works with other operators, supervisors and other personnel to ensure safe, efficient operations, as well as striving to meet customer requirements all while keeping the plant in a clean and efficient state.
This role is currently 8 hour shifts 5 days a week with a potential for overtime dependent on production requirements.
Principal Accountabilities:
70% – Production
Operate all equipment associated with the production of feed, including grinders, oil handling, and pelletizing equipment
Monitor and adjust operation using computerized and controlled systems to meet plant requirements
Ensure accurate information of scale weights and transactions are recorded daily
Load and receive incoming and outgoing trucks to meet plant requirements
Collect & process samples as required
Troubleshoot minor problems as required and perform maintenance tasks to correct as trained
Maintain a clean workplace
any other duties as requested by leadership team
20% – Safety Awareness & Compliance
Understand and adhere to Provincial and Federal Occupational Safety and Health rules and regulations as related to plant safety. Follow all Cargill safety rules and regulations & be a safety champion.
Attend and actively participate in all Safety meeting/training sessions
Maintain a safe and sanitary atmosphere with a high regard for environmental impact of the operation
10% – Miscellaneous
Follow all food safety, quality & regulatory guidelines
Communicate in a courteous and positive manner to accomplish duties effectively, working as a team with all involved
Assist plant personnel as needed, and perform other duties as requested by the leadership team
Required
Must be willing and able to work shifts. Will include nights, overtime, weekends, holidays and additional hours beyond regularly scheduled shifts to cover vacancies
Must be able to ascend and descend stairs, ladders, etc. to work in elevated outdoor areas of the plant
Must be able to lift 50 pounds of weight
Must be able to demonstrate high performance (work performance, attendance record, safety record, etc.)
Must be computer literate and able to work in multiple platforms
Must be legally entitled to work for Cargill Canada
Must be a self-starter and able to work without direct supervision.
Must be able to work with varying temperatures, including working partially outdoors, indoors, and in dusty/noisy enviroment
Preferred
Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
HACCP or Quality system experience
A high level of mechanical aptitude
Competent computer knowledge required, including Microsoft Office/SAP
Must be able to prioritize tasks and follow-up
Must have strong time management skills
Must have strong written and verbal communication skills
Previous experience working in an industrial environment
