ASSISTANT ATTENDANCE CLERK
The Assistant Attendance Clerk provides service to assigned schools in investigation and monitoring of students with excessive and potential attendance problems, enforces the provisions of the Code of Michigan Truancy and Attendance Law; presents case information to Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office (if necessary), and assists in the development of prevention/intervention strategies; monitors student progress; and makes referrals to the student assistance team.
Qualifications
· Applicants must possess and provide proof of a high school diploma or G.E.D. certificate.
· Worked successfully for a period of at least 2 years in clerical/secretarial field (preferably in a school setting)
· Demonstrate ability to work well with the community at large, including parents and students.
· Possess a demonstrated knowledge and understanding of attendance laws/regulations and referral sources.

· Qualified candidates must possess the following skills:
o Good writing skills (including spelling, proofreading and grammar)
o Mathematics skills appropriate to the level of the position
o Word processing skills using Microsoft Office
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Gathers and reviews attendance data that is submitted by classroom teachers and/or building subs titutes to identify students who are excessively truant.
2. Assess students with attendance problems, makes calls to assess any circumstances that the family may be enduring.
3. Collaborates with school staff to develop interventions for students who are truant and when called upon, assist in the development of individualized service plans to improve attendance.
4. Serves as a liaison between assigned school and such agencies as social services, court services, and the police department regarding student truancy.
5. Prepares information for formal hearings/court cases and represents the school division at court interagency staffing and in the courtroom.
6. Acts as a resource to administrators, guidance counselors, teachers, and health services personnel regarding attendance programs, interpretation of attendance policies/laws, and recordkeeping requirements.
7. Maintains necessary records ensuring confidentiality of students and their families and prepares related reports.
8. Collects and enters attendance electronically and/or manually from substitutes/bldg. substitutes; logs tardy students and arrival time; identifies and corrects inconsistencies; assure teachers comply with attendance code policy and procedure; file attendance sheets daily; run electronic reports daily, weekly, and monthly.
9. Collects, reviews, and enters absences excuses that have been submitted by parents in both written and verbal form (voicemails).
10. Collects and enters data from Early Dismissal Sign-Out Book daily.
11. Collects and reviews monthly suspension reports.
12. Provides requested reports/data to District Compliance Officer.
13. Represent the district during internal and external audits.
14. Submits homework request to teachers for students that will be absent for long periods of time (scheduled prior to being out)
15. Assists Main Office when necessary; answers and routes phone calls, record messages, operate standard office equipment, etc.
16. Perform other related duties as assigned by the Office Manager, Principal or designee.
