General Summary
In this hourly position, the Inpatient Intake Representative is responsible for receiving and updating patient information from our referral sources. (Nursing Homes, Facilities, Provider referrals, etc.…) The job is currently remote, but otherwise based in an outpatient medical office building, not on site of nursing home/facility. The duties include but are not limited to verifying insurance eligibility and benefits, accurate and timely entry into patient management system (EMR) and uploading patient documents into EPM/EHR systems. Working knowledge of HIPAA, Federal, State and Local insurance regulations, including knowledge of precertification/authorization processes.
Essential Job Responsibilities
Timely processing of NEW and EXISITING patients
Verifies and updates patient demographic and insurance information in the practice management system.
Effectively use problem-solving skills to obtain and verify patient demographic and insurance information.
Obtains insurance eligibility, benefit verification, and accurately determines correct party financially responsible for payment.
General knowledge base of insurance company’s authorization or precertification policies
Assure accuracy and completeness for all billing requirements.
Communicate with Clinicians and facilities regarding questions about referrals and verification of insurance coverage.
Assist Authorization department, as needed, by obtaining re-authorization for current patients.
Prompt return and follow up to all interactions, prompt response to internal and external inquiries and requests.
Communicate with doctors regarding new and ongoing patients authorized for service.
Sort and file paperwork (electronically)
Maintain a working knowledge of all health information management requirements such as HIPAA
Maintain strict confidentiality.
Coordinate with other revenue cycle departments for follow up on billing matters and/or claim denials.
Communicate and collaborate with Intake Operations Manager and Director of Revenue Cycle to effectively resolve issues impacting the referral process.
Special projects as assigned.
Education
Experience
Minimum of two years in medical billing setting
Knowledge of insurance coverage and benefit verification is a plus.
Medicare, Medicaid, HMO, PPO knowledge base.
Prior experience with behavioral health services helpful, but not required.
Experience in working with RCM (Revenue Cycle Management) Department.
Knowledge
Thorough understanding of insurance verification, patient registration, and benefit verification/ authorization process
Working knowledge of HIPAA, Federal, State, and local insurance regulations, and requirements.
