At the Christchurch City Council we want to create a better future for our city. We offer rewarding careers where you can make a real difference.
Take this opportunity to join our Libraries network and contribute to your community.
Our libraries could not operate without our brilliant team of Library Assistants. We’re looking for enthusiastic people who give great customer service. Your ability to find a way to help all sorts of people will enable you to promote reading and literacy, while your technological savvy will open up a world of digital information and inspiration to our customers. You are able to work in ways that give life to biculturalism.
The variety of challenges, interactions and tasks will give plenty of opportunity for you to display your resilience, adaptability, energy and initiative. It’s a busy and physically active role which will keep you moving. We’re looking for people who love learning. Our comprehensive training will set you up to succeed whether you decide to stay as a Library Assistant or to aim for other roles within the Council.
Network Library Assistant – Network Library Assistants work in almost all our libraries, providing cover where it is needed. This means you will need your own motorised transport and a driving licence (naturally, we pay mileage). The role has a lot of variety, so you will need to be flexible and able to quickly adapt to working in different teams and with communities who have varied needs. We are looking for people who can show initiative and are comfortable making decisions. It is a great starting role in which you’ll meet many of the people who work for Christchurch City Libraries and get a sense of which libraries suit you best. You must be able to work as part of a rotating roster all days of the week and at any time between 7.30am and 8.15pm for at least 5 days a week.
Mobile Library Assistant – This is a heavily community focused role which will require someone who is able to work remotely and independently with the ability to think quickly on their feet to respond to customer needs. The successful applicant will epitomise the vision of working alongside your regular customers; you will get to know them and their individual needs well and proactive service delivery is an absolute must. You will work in an extremely collaborative way with our other driver of the Mobile service – this is a key relationship in order to sustain a successful service delivery for our customers. A standard full NZ driver’s licence is required. Please note that a standard licence category (e.g. car) is all that’s required.
Are you determined to create a better future? Find out what’s possible, apply today.
