City of Kettering Hiring for Ice Arena Instructor at United States Full Time

The City of Kettering’s Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department is recruiting to fill Temporary Part-Time Ice Arena Instructor positions for the Kettering Ice Arena. These positions are responsible for instructing Learn to Skate USA ice skating group classes, assisting in ice arena specialty events and City of Kettering related ice shows.

Examples of Duties (Illustrative Only):

• Instructs various levels of Learn to Skate USA group classes and teaches proper ice skating skills maintaining a safe, encouraging environment;

• Knowledge and understanding of Learn to Skate USA program;

• Required to hold current yearly Learn to Skate USA instructor membership and certifications pertaining to Learn to Skate USA instructors and required to pass a Learn to Skate USA background check;

• Required to be Ohio Concussion certified and hold certification in First Aid/CPR;

• Organizes class activities and maintains class rosters and attendance records;

• Evaluates skaters on test day and fills out appropriate report cards and certificates;

• Assists with class set up and clean up and carries out additional responsibilities assigned by Lesson Coordinator;

• Regular and predictable on-site attendance required with availability to work Wednesday and Saturday lesson times with availability to sub if necessary when needed and required attendance at monthly in-service trainings;

• Ability to skate at least 3 hours per class day;

• Choreographs or assists in choreographing ice show and exhibitions numbers and assists where needed in ice shows and exhibitions and assists in arena specialty events;

• Maintains a professional demeanor on and off the ice and promotes City of Kettering group class programs;

• Enforces and follows all policies and procedures established by the City of Kettering Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts department;

• Must be able to establish effective working relationships and communicate with skaters, instructors, parents, Learn to Skate coordinator, ice arena staff, City staff members, volunteers and the general public in a positive manner.

Qualifications:

Possess current knowledge of Learn to Skate program and ice skating fundamentals. Ability to ice skate, teach required skating skills and assist skaters of all levels, abilities and ages. Some experience preferred, but not required. CPR for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid certification preferred (will be provided if not current) or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must possess valid Ohio Driver’s License.

Compensation:

Pay range is $12.00 to $28.05 per hour. Entry rate is contingent upon candidate’s related skills, knowledge, and abilities. These Temporary Part-Time Ice Arena Instructor positions will be permitted to work up to 28 hours per week year-round.
