The Traffic Engineering Division seeks a Traffic Sign Worker to assist in the installation, maintenance, and evaluation of this growing system of sign types, markings, and associated equipment. This is technical work focused on field operations and workstation tasks for the citywide street signing and marking infrastructure including coordination with staff and various other stakeholders. Supervision is received from technical staff, and engineering and management superiors within Traffic Engineering. Primary work involves supporting the signing and marking team in the day to day maintenance and operations of the signing and marking infrastructure including: work on guide, regulatory, and warning signs, paint markings, pre-formed markings, and associated apparatus in the public street right of way. Tasks include routine replacement program work of field components, new project implementations, and analysis of industry products. Tasks also include computer work on the city’s asset management system, specification review, and final acceptance and inspection duties. Additional opportunities include communicating with several other departments regarding street projects that will impact traffic signing and marking locations, and working in a team environment to implement solutions.
The chosen applicant must apply knowledge of field work, general tools and mechanical systems and equipment, computer applications to be able to support a wide variety of office and field task work as needed. The applicant must possess strong work ethic, computer and communications skills, and be able to thrive in a team environment.
Hours: M – F; 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Minimum Qualifications/Necessary Special Requirements:
Qualification: Graduation from a senior high school or equivalent plus coursework and/or experience in computer science or other civil engineering field, the electrical or electronic field; and 2 years of experience of a technical nature; or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the desirable knowledge, abilities and skills.
Necessary Special Requirements: Possession of a valid driver’s license when operating a vehicle may be necessary to the satisfactory performance of assigned duties for some positions within this classification.
Approved Work Zone Temporary Traffic Control Safety Certification.
Must have Sign and Pavement Marking Technician Level II Certification within 12 months of date of hire.
