A role you will love

As a Software Engineer you will work as part of the Communications Services (CCS) Technology software development team, the technology team that builds and supports the application suite of our global Communication Services business. Working in the development team of approximately 4-6 Software Engineers who may be working across a range of projects and products.

You will participate in the development lifecycle methodology including technical requirements, design documentation, coding, unit testing, system integration, and debug of software system issues.

Some of your key responsibilities will include:

• Develop and maintain .NET (C#) code for standard executables and services
• Develop, maintain and performance tune MS SQL stored procedures, functions, and views
• Create and maintain MS SSIS Packages
• Under guidance, research new technologies and conduct Proof of Concepts
• Review and prioritise work requests to ensure that requirements are understood
• Conduct impact analysis of proposed changes
• Write accurate and clear development work items
• Contribute to the creation and review of design documentation
• Participate in team planning by providing high level estimates for all work upfront, and revising those estimates if required as the work proceeds
• Responsible for software integration, external interface development and technical documentation
• Adhere to current source control and task tracking using VSTS and Git
• Participate in peer code reviews
• Assist in the package of software releases for deployment to system test and UAT environments
• Ensure that solutions delivered to production are fit for purpose, meet security, risk, and audit requirements, meet customer expectations, and do not cause high severity outages
• Maintain code quality thorough unit testing – manual and automated
• Document unit testing using TFS
• Troubleshoots and resolves testing issues
• Provide instructions to DevOps team to install changes in UAT and provide assistance during UAT if required

We are looking for people with these skills:

• An experienced .NET (C#), and SQL developer. Wider experience of HTML, XML, CSS, JavaScript, SOAP/rest web services, JSON, MVC, ASP.NET, WCF, Microservices
• Experience with modern software development technologies and methodologies (IOC, TDD) in an Agile environment, embracing the adoption of DevOps practices including automation, continuous integration, and continuous delivery
• Awareness of common application security threats/vulnerabilities and knowledge of software development best practices that would mitigate these threats
• Competent with Windows Server environment and third-party application deployments running on two and three tier architectures. Experience with other application architectures is desirable (containers, k8s, PaaS, microservices)
• Experience of application development and support within an enterprise context and ideally some experience with architectures spanning multiple technologies
• Experience with using IDE (Visual Studio preferred) with source control and task tracking (MS Team Foundation Server preferred)
• Ability to learn about new systems quickly so that you can customize and integrate with a diverse group of applications
• Pride in producing quality code through unit testing
• Strong analytical skills
• Good documentation skills
• Preferred familiarity with Groovy and/or integrating with Quadient technology stack
