The Opportunity

The role of Research Projects staff in CSIRO is to collaborate in scientific and technological activities with other research staff usually by assisting with detailed planning, undertaking or assisting with experimental, observational or technology development work, and in carrying out the more practical aspects of the work.

This position is for a software engineer to design and develop software in the Robotics and Autonomous Systems (RAS) Group. The role will focus on the deployment, integration, testing and support of the Wildcat SLAM platform for new and existing use cases, both within CSIRO and our commercial customers.

Your duties will include:

• Support existing and future licensees of the Wildcat SLAM technology to adopt, adapt and deploy the technology in their products and services
• Support CSIRO staff to use the Wildcat platform in research and customer facing deployments
• Lead or assist with the development of customer-facing software, tools, documentation and processes that facilitates the integration, configuration, use and adaptation of the Wildcat platform.
• Lead or assist with the development and/or delivery of projects that depend on the Wildcat platform
• Assist the engineering team with field testing, demonstration and prototyping activities

Location: Brisbane, Queensland

Salary: AU$105,806 – AU$114,500 plus up to 15.4% superannuation

To be considered you will need:

Essential:

• Relevant trade bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant work experience in Software Engineering / Mechatronics Engineering or similar
• Experience developing, deploying and supporting software in a robotics context
• 2+ years experience in a customer facing technical advisory or support role

Desirable:

• Demonstrated experience with SLAM software integration and support
• Experience developing and delivering technical projects with customers
• Hands-on experience with sensor evaluation and driver development
• Proficiency with C++ and/or Python
