He angitūtanga | About the role
As our Ranger, Community, Treaty Implementation you’ll join our existing Community Team based in our offices in Tāmaki Makaurau/Auckland and Mahurangi/Warkworth. The Māori (mana whenua and matāwaka) landscape in the DOC Auckland region is complex with 19 iwi (with overlapping rights and interests and at varying stages of settlement redress and settlement implementation) and active matāwaka interests. DOC staff are reliant on excellent knowledge of the Māori landscape to undertake their work effectively.
The role contributes to conditions within the DOC Auckland Region that best provide for high-quality relationships with whānau, hapū and iwi and supports DOC staff in understanding the Treaty landscape of Tāmaki Makaurau and building their capacity to fulfil Treaty responsibilities. This role also supports the Auckland Operations Teams to enact their Treaty priorities, develop their cultural capability and mitigate risk from non-fulfilment of Treaty responsibilities.

We are looking for a natural people leader who is passionate about supporting a positive team culture. You will have great communication and engagement skills allowing a heightened sense of self-awareness and emotional intelligence. You will know how to engage effectively with mana whenua and show a willingness to learn karakia, pepeha and local tikanga to develop your capability in this area, allowing you to work effectively with whānau, hapū, and iwi.

This role sits with the Community team in the Tāmaki Makaurau Mainland District. You will be part of the wider District team which contains a motivated mix of biodiversity, community and visitor/heritage rangers, who deliver our conservation operations on the ground. The team in Tāmaki Makaurau has a supportive and collaborative culture.
