The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) is seeking an Industry & Education Manager to provide a critical role at the Metropolitan Remand Centre.

About the business unit

The Metropolitan Remand Centre is a 954-bed maximum security facility for unsentenced male offenders within the Department of Justice and Community Safety.

The Industry and Education Manager will be responsible for managing a team of custodial and non-custodial officers delivering a range of commercial industries and vocational and educational services to MRC, for which the incumbent will require superior leadership skills.

About the role

Some of your duties will include:

• Manage industry operations, vocational education, and educational services within the MRC consistent with legislative requirements, operational procedures and policies and standards set by Corrections Victoria.
• Maintain security and control of prisoners through surveillance and the operation of security equipment in the area of responsibility.
• Be accountable for production delivery, budget management for materials and equipment purchases and for prisoner and staff labour costs in the area of responsibility.

It is a requirement of this position to work weekends and public holidays, which will be remunerated in accordance with the applicable provision of the Victorian Public Service Enterprise Agreement 2020.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• Demonstrated commitment to working with staff, prisoners, and other service providers in the delivery of an integrated, whole of prison program approach to reducing re-offending
• Qualifications and/or demonstrated experience and skill in areas relevant to correctional delivery, offender management, OH&S/HR management, or offender treatment.
