Job Summary:
As an Editor you edit frontlist picture books, chapter books, and bindups in a variety of formats and stages of the editorial process, including checking that frontlist additions to a series are consistent with past series titles in terms of style, format, and other specs.

Responsibilities:
Review and route all manuscripts, art, PDF passes, and proofs through creator, other contributors (if any), design, and managing editorial, adhering to deadlines

Liaise between creator and his agent and marketing, publicity, sales, sub rights, and other departments.

Write and obtain creator’s approval on various copy including:

Fact sheets, catalog, galley, and jacket copy

Letters for book interiors and special mailings

Website copy

Research, write, and provide support for nonfiction content

Liaise directly with creator and his agent, including:
Weekly or twice-weekly video check-ins with creator

Editorial calls with creator and other authors/illustrators as needed

Run or attend meetings related to management of creator’s front and backlist, including:

Running weekly video check-ins with creator’s editorial and design team

Attending weekly call-to-print meeting to weigh in on first printings and anticipate reprint needs

Attending/speaking at various other meetings as required, including Focus and Sales Conference, Sales & Marketing, Acquisitions, royalty statement reviews, marketing brainstorms, and project-specific planning meetings

Manage all backlist reprints

Basic Qualifications:
Minimum 4-5 years experience in picture book publishing

Experience editing picture books and chapter books from inception to publication

Excellent communication skills and ability to work with a team remotely

Exceptional written, verbal and presentation skills

Excellent author and agent care

Knowledge of publishing process and formats

Ability to prioritize, multi-task, manage resources across multiple projects, and meet tight deadlines.

Highly motivated, productive, and detail-oriented, with exceptional organizational skills.

Understanding of editing, line editing, and copyediting

Knowledge of Adobe PDF, Microsoft Word + Track Changes
