Salary: £23,000 per annum

Drayton Manor Zoo is a fascinating place to work – with 15 acres of open plan zoo playing home to animals from all over the world including many endangered species. We are committed to supporting global conservation efforts and achieving the highest possible standards of zoo animal welfare alongside providing a first-class education to all of our guests on both formal and informal basis.
What does the role involve;-

• The emphasis is to deliver education that is relevant, fun, inclusive and appropriate for a guest focussed business.
• To take ownership and responsibility for the education department and working with the Head of Zoo Operations, develop and follow an agreed strategic plan.
• Deliver and keep under continual review a series of dynamic, formal taught sessions linked to identified curriculum needs across a range of education levels for the zoo and wider theme park. Periodically assess and record their efficacy against learning outcomes and quality in terms of delivery using accepted pedagogical methodology.
• To take ownership and responsibility for the wider zoo conservation education messaging in line with the BIAZA Conservation Education Guidelines including the evaluation of education. Achieved through guest talks and experiences, clubs, interpretation including the website, animal events, outreach etc.

Requirements

Who are we looking for?
The successful candidate will need to/preferably have;-

• Minimum of L3 qualification in relevant subject or BSc (hons) in Animal Science/Conservation or PGCE
• 3 years+ of experience working in a formal education setting
• Experience working in an EAZA Collection with knowledge of education in the leisure sector
• Knowledge of current conservation issues and the role zoos play in mitigating species loss
