Dunedin City Council Hiring for City Sanctuary Predator Free Community Ranger Job at Dunedin Full Time

The City Sanctuary Project is one of three Predator Free Dunedin projects that are working towards making Dunedin predator free by 2050. Our vision is to create a vibrant sanctuary across Dunedin City through community-based predator control in backyards and reserves.

We have two exciting opportunities to join our team as Community Ranger, where you will support the residents and volunteers of our community in Ōtepoti Dunedin to undertake predator control and monitoring in private backyards within the City Sanctuary operating area.

In this role you will be guided by the City Sanctuary Project Delivery Plans, supporting the delivery of ground-based operations, and ensuring residents and volunteers are provided with training and on-going support with their predator control and other complementary environmental actions.

You will bring your friendly positive attitude and ability to communicate and relate to our community, including people of different age groups and cultural backgrounds.

We have two fixed term roles available until June 2025.

Your responsibilities within this role include the following:

• Activating and supporting individuals to participate in backyard trapping and complementary habitat restoration activities,
• Assisting communities to monitor the success of their trapping initiatives via result and outcome monitoring initiatives,
• Conducting pest control and monitoring on residential and reserve land
• Helping to create stories and resources for City Sanctuary target audiences

To be successful in this role you will have the following:

• Minimum 2 years proven experience in conservation/wildlife management related field work, and experience using current pest control tools and technology including Trap.NZ,
• Pest Control training certification,
• Willingness to be an integral part of a team,
• Have a good knowledge of workplace health and safety requirements,
• A full New Zealand driver’s license.
