OpticsPlanet (Northbrook, IL) seeks a Software Engineer to work on the most complex projects being introduced in the company’s e-commerce web platform, working with other developers and enforcing best practices and coding standards on both a team and department level. Specific duties include: develop enterprise web applications using Object Oriented Code in Symfony 2 framework on a LAMP stack, utilizing several open-source technologies; work together with other Agile team members to solve software engineering problems from start to finish; architect and develop new features and systems and improve existing platform components; develop and integrate with 3rd party tools and services and integrate between different in-house systems; follow industry trends to recommend and apply them to technology stack; drive quality improvement initiatives; evolve and enforce coding standards and best practices; participate in company tech talks, demos and mentorship programs; perform data mining and analytics, including multi-database reporting; participate in agile processes, peer code reviews, and continuous integration; participate in whole spectrum of web development tasks, including writing web apps (both front-end and back-end work), web service for consumers and providers, automated publishing tools for our stores and retail channels, and critical business analytics applications. Must take and pass pre-interview coding test.

Position requires a Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science or a closely related field of study, plus 3 years of experience in the job offered, or similar Software Engineer or PHP Developer experience. Must have 3 years of experience working with LAMP stack, including two or more PHP frameworks such as Symfony or similar. Specific experience must also include: working with object-oriented programming languages and using design patterns; working with web platforms and technologies including HTTP, REST APIs, and JSON; working with JavaScript including jQuery and at least two JavaScript frameworks; working with Service Oriented Architecture, MySQL, ElasticSearch, Cassandra, RabbitMQ, Kafka, KSQL, Node.js, GitHub, and Amazon Web Services including identifying and troubleshooting related problems; working with and configuring Web servers including Apache HTTPD and Nginx; working with software load-balancers solutions such as HAproxy, Nginx, or similar; using scripting languages including Bash, Python, PHP, and Go for automating software deployments; working with virtualization technologies including VMWare and Vagrant and containerization technologies including Docker or Kubernetes; working with Terragrunt, Terraform, Atlantis stacks for creating infrastructure as a code; working with a provisioning system such as Salt Stack or similar; working with monitoring system and creating dashboards in the Grafana and Kibana (ELK); working with Atlassian stack applications, including Jira, Confluence, Bamboo, and BitBucket; working with Linux/Unix operating systems; working with content management and document management; researching and using innovative open-source technologies; troubleshooting complex problems; leading technical discussions and driving consensus on debates; and working as a team member in cross-group collaborative environment.
