We now have a permanent opportunity for an Automation Design Engineer located at Victoria Park, Brisbane and are inviting applications from suitably qualified external candidates.

This position provides specialised control systems design, configuration, and support services for a broad range of assets that include substations, Distributed System SCADA (DSS), and customer connections.

Control system technologies that could be involved in this position include:

• PC-SACS, DSS hardware and software
• Communication Protocols largely include RDCCOM, DNP3, Modbus etc. over serial link or ethernet
• QNX and/or Linux operating system
• IEC-61131 programming language, C, C++, Shell Scripts
• SCADAbase, GE PowerOn.

The candidate

We are seeking leading professionals who refer to their field as Control Systems, Industrial Automation or Operational Technology. To be successful in gaining this exciting opportunity the following skills and qualifications are required:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and acceptable for registration as a Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) in Electrical;
• Registration as a Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) is desirable;
• Strong commitment to Health, Safety and Environment in the workplace. Safety in Design experience will be highly regarded;
• Experience with power systems and associated equipment;
• Substantial experience with PLCs, RTUs, SCADA and interfacing software;
• High level programming languages is desirable;
• Reasonable knowledge and experience with PC-SACS hardware and software, DNP3, Modbus and their application;
• Ability to develop functional descriptions, functional specifications, test strategies and comprehensive test sheets from scratch;
• Able to travel intra or interstate for work.

The position has been evaluated as Professional and Managerial Grade Two (PM2). Remuneration will range from $118,573 – $153,974 per annum. The level of payment will be subject to an assessment of the successful applicant’s knowledge, skills and competencies that are required in this position. Conditions of employment are in accordance with the Energy Queensland Union Collective Agreement 2020.
