Summary 

We are looking for a talented and motivated Economist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong academic background in economics, finance, or statistics, and 1 to 5 years of experience in consulting, finance, or another corporate setting. The successful candidate will be proficient in quantitative modeling, data analysis, related toolsets including Excel and Python. They will also have strong communication and presentation skills. In this position you will report to and work directly with the Chief Economist, you will work closely with the Data Architect, and you will also have exposure to the global team of experts.

Responsibilities 

The Economist will play an important role in developing Onyx’s quantitative analytical capabilities. More specifically, you will: 

• Obtain, organize, assess, and analyze data resources; 
• Conduct quantitative analysis using Excel, SQL, Python and other tools including developing and enhancing existing economic and financial models; 
• Apply economic analysis across a range of geographies and industries; 
• Analyze and interpret data for publications and client projects; 
• Prepare reports and presentations in PowerPoint and data visualization tools such as PowerBI; 
• Collaborate with team members to solve clients’ questions using data-driven methodologies; and 
• Stay up-to-date on economic trends. 

Experience: 

• Related professional experience ideally at a consulting or financial sector firm 
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects throughout the project life-cycle 
• Creative and innovative mind to identify ways to answer questions and solve problems 
• Collaborative working style 

Qualifications: 

• Bachelor’s degree: Economics, Finance, Data Science or other related fields 
• 1 to 5 years of professional experience 
• Strong quantitative skills 
• Proficient in Excel, statistical software (e.g., Stata, R), SQL, Python, and data visualization tools 
• Excellent communication and presentation skills 
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
