Flexport Looking for Software Engineer II, FinTech at San Francisco, CA Full Time

Flexport is building the first modern logistics platform to make global trade easier for everyone. We are solving complex problems on a global scale, and disrupting a multi-trillion dollar industry that has remained stubbornly unchanged.

The finance team supports the office of the CFO in three distinct areas:

• We are building the systems used by our lending business, Flexport Capital, to provide companies quick access to working capital financing without complex fee structures, onerous documentation or multi-month diligence processes common in lending.
• Similarly we are building the software used by our insurance business to provide our client insurance of the goods we are moving for them.
• Finally, we are building the systems used to process and pay the more than 1M yearly bills (invoices) we receive from our vendors across the globe.

You will:

• Take point on complex product initiatives and run them to completion with minimal supervision.
• Design flexible, maintainable code.
• Safeguard code quality on your team, reviewing others’ code with an eye to performance and maintainability.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to execute against the vision and roadmap.
• Work closely with designers and product managers to distill complex business problems into elegant technical solutions.
• Be part of a close-knit engineering team that ships new code into production multiple times a day.
• Geek out about shipping and logistics. (We do this often.)

You should have:

• 2-5 years of experience writing software, and strong engineering background.
• A love of simple, well-tested code that is easy to extend and hard to break.
• The ability to convey technical ideas in common terms to business partners, product managers, designers, and engineers alike.
• A bias for action. When you see a problem, you solve it.
• A desire to develop your tooling repertoire. We are tech-agnostic regarding candidate background, but our platform is built with Ruby.
• Optional: experience in Ruby, Rails, PostgreSQL, GraphQL, React, Modern Javascript, Node.js, Clojure.
• Non-optional: an aptitude for learning quickly

Our stack:

Our continuous releases are integrated with Buildkite and Github. On the frontend, we create our views with React, manage the flow of data with GraphQL/Relay, and test our application with Jest. On the backend, we’re in the process of decoupling our monolithic Rails app. We have introduced a few network isolated services using other languages, such as Java and Clojure. Our data is persisted in Postgres and Redis. Our stack is hosted on AWS using Docker.

The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range displayed, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education and / or training.

The US base salary range for this full-time position: (exclusive of bonus, equity and benefits.)

$165,400 – $183,750 USD per year
