Framatome is seeking a Design Authority/Architect in our Advanced Reactors group at our Mill Ridge Road office in Lynchburg, Virginia. Remote work options may be available. This position will lead one (or more) projects to increase Framatome’s market presence in the Advanced Reactors area. This Advanced Reactor mission includes projects in the Gen III and Gen IV areas, as well as projects for the U.S. government (e.g., DOE, DoD, NASA).

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Development and deployment of Gen IV Advanced Reactor designs (e.g., high-temperature gas reactors, molten salt reactors and microreactors).

• Support for Framatome advanced Gen III LWR reactors (e.g., EPR2), as well as customer advanced Gen III LWR reactors.

• Support for DOE advanced reactor initiatives.

• Upgrade of DOE/DoD facilities to support their advanced reactor mission.

• Support for technology risk management mission, by leading and/or participating in assigned technical risk management activities; interface with Framatome’s French and German regions in these technology risk management areas (as appropriate); and upgrade group implementing procedures (as needed) to reflect lessons learned.

Required SkillsRequired Experience

All candidates must meet the following minimum requirements to be considered for this opportunity:

• BS in Eng’g/Eng’g Tech. plus 7-10 years of engineering experience. An advanced degree may be substituted for related exp. (MS 1-2 yrs. or PhD 1-3 yrs.). In applicable states a PE license will be accepted in lieu of a 4 yr. engineering degree.

  The following may be used to differentiate candidates who apply for this position:

• Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification preferred

• Advanced knowledge of related engineering standards, techniques and criteria for Systems Engineering. This will focus on mechanical process system design (new designs and plant modifications).

• Good communication skills (written and verbal), including the ability to comprehend and convey detailed technical data.

• Ability to develop and maintain good interpersonal relationships.

• Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills.

• Broad interdisciplinary knowledge of existing commercial LWRs.

• Ability/willingness to learn about advanced reactor designs (Gen III and Gen IV).

• Self-Starter (ability and willingness to take charge and lead).

• Experience in working on advanced reactor designs (LWRs and non-LWRs)

• Experience in working in multiple plant areas (Primary, Engineered Safeguards, Turbine Cycle and BOP).

• Experience in working with the government (e.g., DOE, DoD).

• Experience with NRC staff/ACRS (e.g., presentations to regulatory authorities).

• Desire to advance into a leadership position
