Minimum qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 2 years of experience editing technical documentation.

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience with HTML or markdown.
• Experience in outstanding writing/editing samples and ability to adapt to Google style.
• Ability to navigate ambiguity, support multiple projects, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills and ability to take initiatives.

About the job

Technical writers plan, create, and maintain educational content as an integral part of the engineering or user experience. The content is often in the form of documentation, but may also be UI text, sample code, videos, or other educational material. Regardless of the content medium, technical writers are distinguished by their abilities to explain complex topics in a way that’s useful to their audience.

As a technical editor in Cloud Security, Cloud Information Experience (iX), you’ll contribute to a wide variety of security products and technologies across Google. You’ll work with engineers, program managers, tech writers, and more to craft internal and external documentation, including conceptual materials to walkthroughs and Application Programming Interface (API) reference docs. Your words will have immediate impact and long-term value, and you’ll grow as an editor and a leader. You’ll have access to a larger team of writers in the Cloud iX organisation, with opportunities to collaborate around tools, process, and innovation.

Additional Information:

(Colorado only*) Minimum full-time salary range between $110,000 – $118,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. *Note: Disclosure as required by sb19-085 (8-5-20) of the minimum salary compensation for this role when being hired into our offices in Colorado.

Responsibilities

• Work with a team of technical writers to edit, publish, and maintain high-quality documentation and online content. This can include overview/concept documentation, how-to guides, and API references.
• Consult with writers on developmental editing, content strategy, information architecture.
• Consult on and perform large documentation maintenance projects.
• Consult on terminology and branding decisions.
• Train writers and partner teams on documentation processes and style guides.
