Government of Saskatchewan Hiring For Air Quality Specialist at Regina, SK Full Time

The Environmental Protection Branch is seeking a multi-talented individual with a strong knowledge of air monitoring instrumentation, air quality principles, and environmental programming for the role of Air Quality Specialist.

As an Air Quality Specialist in the Environmental Protection Branch, you will be responsible for:

• Delivering the ambient air monitoring program and providing recommendations for program improvements;
• Maintenance, calibration and operation of air monitoring instrumentation;
• Quality Assurance/Quality Control of ambient air monitoring data;
• Producing air quality reports and developing air zone management plans;
• Researching, Identifying, recommending, developing, implementing and evaluating proposed air quality related policies, guidelines, new technologies, techniques and concepts;
• Representing the ministry on various air quality related federal, provincial and territorial committees, on air zone associations and on ministry or government committees;
• Providing technical assistance and/or guidance to internal and external clients on air quality; and,
• Evaluating the implications of air quality issues to Saskatchewan, based on available data;

This position will also be taking on Environmental Emergencies Officer duties, which includes:

• Participating in an on-call shift rotation schedule for potential deployment to oversee response of environmental emergencies on short notice;
• Training to become a competent Environmental Emergencies Officer; and
• Investigating discharges of hazardous substances and waste dangerous goods and approve remediation.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated knowledge of:

• Applicable provincial environmental legislation;
• Canada-wide Air Quality Management System;
• National Air Pollution Surveillance Program;
• Provincial and National air quality standards;
• Current scientific research techniques, methodology and operation principles used to collect, analyze, interpret, summarize and report findings to support stakeholders with respect to air quality issues;
• Environmental and public safety issues associated with municipal, industrial and commercial operations including air, hazardous substances and waste dangerous goods.

The successful candidate will have the ability to clearly and accurately discuss complex environmental issues, policies and procedures to diverse groups (including peers) at a level appropriate to the audience, and concisely draft and compose written documents. You will be able to work independently and in teams to ensure the air quality monitoring network is operating to performance standards. You will also have the ability to educate, facilitate, and persuade others to achieve consensus or resolve conflict in highly polarized situations.

Typically, the competencies required for this position would be achieved through a technologist diploma or science-based university degree with air quality related work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. You will have demonstrated the ability to adhere to the values of the Saskatchewan Public Service.

The headquarters for this position will be Regina. Travel to remote locations of the province, participating in on-call shift rotation and working flexible hours are required for this position.
