The Ministry of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety is responsible for overseeing Saskatchewan’s correctional system and facilities and for providing guidance and support to Saskatchewan’s municipal police services.
The Opportunity
The Communications Branch is seeking a creative and highly motivated Senior Communications Consultant with experience in internal engagement, web content management, graphic design and layout.
Reporting to the Director of Communications, you will:
Collaborate with Ministry officials to organize events, promote ministry activities and manage its web presence;
Support the ministry’s internal communications needs and strategies, organizing news conferences and events, and monitoring justice-related media stories;
Be responsible for writing, editing and reviewing ministry communications such as speaking notes, briefing notes and correspondence;
Work with your colleagues in the Communications Branch to coordinate internal and external communications; and
Provide strategic communications support to other branches and divisions within the ministries.
The Ideal Candidate
As our successful candidate, you will be well organized with superior judgment and interpersonal skills and demonstrate:
An in-depth knowledge of strategic communications and the ability to identify key issues;
The ability to research, analyze and integrate complex and often sensitive information from numerous sources in a timely manner;
The ability to compose a variety of internal and external communications materials, including website and intranet content, speeches and news releases;
The ability to work as part of a team in order to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment, while working independently and supporting others within the organization;
A desire to strive for service excellence when collaborating with internal and external stakeholders; and
The ability to be innovative and demonstrate initiative when working in a constantly-changing environment.
Typically, the knowledge and competencies required for this position would be acquired through the completion of an undergraduate degree in journalism, communications, media studies, or a related field of study, combined with relevant experience. Working knowledge of best practices in internal engagement and employee reporting is an asset.
A valid Saskatchewan driver’s licence is required as occasional travel within the province will be required.
