The Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment, Forest Service Branch, is currently seeking a proactive, self-directed, analytical individual with a background in forestry and field surveys to fill the role of Forest Ecosystem Technician headquartered in Prince Albert.

Forests are essential to the long-term well-being of Saskatchewan’s communities, economy and environment. Over half of Saskatchewan is forested, providing the province with a multitude of benefits. As stewards of the forest resource, the Government of Saskatchewan is committed to its sustainable management. As the Forest Ecosystem Technician, you will be responsible for the implementation of field survey projects that support the provincial forest inventory and growth and yield programs. This will include logistics planning, training and supervising temporary field staff, maintaining equipment, and collecting data in various forested locations.

The successful candidate will have knowledge of common field sampling procedures used in the science of forestry, experience working in the field collecting a variety of data.

Typically, the competencies required for this position would be obtained through the completion of a post-secondary university degree in forestry, a 2-year technical diploma in the study of forestry, or a combination of a diploma or degree from a natural resource management program and mutiple field seasons of relevant experience. Formal education in the use of Geographic Information Systems would be an asset.

This position will require traveling to remote locations to conduct work activities, working irregular hours, conducting field surveys, and operating trucks and all-terrain vehicles.
