Employment Type: SGEU Term 9 months or more
Location(s): SK-Rgna-Regina
Ministry: 003 Justice
Salary Range: $30.935 – $38.764 Hourly
Grade: SGEU.09.
The Policing and Community Safety Services Division of the Ministry of Justice has a challenging career opportunity for an Investigator with the Seizure of Criminal Property Unit (Civil Forfeiture) in Regina. Civil Forfeiture assists in making crime unprofitable by capturing resources tainted by unlawful activity, making them unavailable for use in future illicit acts, and redistributing those resources to fund initiatives which promote public safety within Saskatchewan.
The successful applicant will be a mature, highly motivated, responsible, team-orientated individual whose primary responsibility will be to review and conduct investigations in furtherance of forfeiture applications under The Seizure of Criminal Property Act, 2009. Investigations will focus on serious illicit activities including drug trafficking, human trafficking, sexual offences, organized crime, money laundering and firearms offences, as they relate to proceeds and instruments of unlawful activity. In assisting in anti-money laundering endeavours, you will review police files and other documents with a view to tracing proceeds, identifying forfeitable assets, and further investigating these assets in anticipation of forfeiture applications. You will have knowledge of criminal organizations, as well as current and emerging money laundering strategies used to conceal proceeds of crime, as well as a keen interest in continuing your education in this field.
You will work closely with the Director and counsel in determining the focus of internal investigations and evidentiary needs in order to successfully achieve forfeiture. You will liaise with provincial, municipal and federal law enforcement agencies, intelligence units, and other Civil Forfeiture jurisdictions. You will also assist in the management of restrained and forfeited assets.
The successful candidate will be required to be authorized to carry firearms (and be able to pass the Provincial Firearms Standards approved by the Saskatchewan Police Commission), O.C. Spray, and extendable batons. Additionally, you may be required to undergo medical and physical testing (in order to demonstrate overall health and fitness) and will be required to undergo psychological testing, criminal record check, background checks, qualify for a heightened level of security clearance, possess a valid driver’s licence, and work varied shifts. The incumbent will be appointed as a Special Constable pursuant to The Police Act, 1990.
You will have successfully completed training in a police academy/college and have supplemented that training through extensive policing experience conducting investigations and enforcement and intelligence gathering (in the areas of drug enforcement, commercial crime, organized crime/gangs and associated major crimes), including conducting surveillance and providing evidence based on this experience to obtain court orders.
