Do have an interest in culture, historical objects, arts and/or archaeology?
Have you followed your interests to obtain a degree in art history or cultural, museum or indigenous studies?
Have you worked in this field and have five years’ experience working with museum, cultural, archaeological or other collections in a museum or heritage centre?
Do you have a passion or interest in Northwest Territories’ history, art, culture, archaeology and people?
If you’ve answered yes to the questions above, have we got an opportunity for you! The Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre located in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories is hiring a Curator for Museum Collections Engagement.
In this role you will have the opportunity to work with material culture (art, archaeology, historical specimens) from around the NWT while working to develop relationships with communities across the Territories. Through this role you will learn and lead in demonstrating how museum objects can support cultural revitalization and decolonize museum practices by offering different ways to think about collecting, managing, and displaying culture and heritage.
This is an opportunity to help promote the long and rich Indigenous history of the Northwest Territories and ensure that contemporary cultural expression is supported.
To be successful in this role you will typically need to have a degree in anthropology, art history, information studies, history, or a related field, plus three (3) years of experience researching and presenting culture in a museum. Equivalencies will be considered.
The Government of the Northwest Territories offers a competitive salary, an annual northern living allowance, a generous defined benefit pension plan, annual leave including the option for deferred leave, and health/dental benefits.
