Halifax Regional Municipality Looking for Summer Youth Live Vehicle Operator at Canada Full Time

Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) is inviting applications for the casual position of Summer Youth Live Vehicle Operator in Parks and Recreation. The Summer Youth Live Vehicle Operator will work with full time staff and summer operations assistants to help with Youth Live’s Green Cart Delivery & Repair operation.

If successful in obtaining this position, you will be based out of Youth Live Warehouse and Admin Office (1300 St. Margaret’s Bay Road, Beechville). You’ll be given training and supervision to get started with the green cart operation.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Drive one of Youth Live’s fleet vehicles (Pick up Truck or Panel Van) to customer sites to repair or replace green carts
• Complete daily vehicle checklist and report any deficiencies and potential safety hazards to supervisor.
• Supervise youth in the dismantling of the Green Carts as part of our Green Cart Service
• Attend required training sessions

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

• Grade 12 or high education
• Experience working or supervising young people (ages 16-24)
• Two years driving experience within the municipality considered an asset.

Technical / Job Specific Knowledge and Abilities

• Must possess a Nova Scotia Drivers License (class 5) with a driving abstract that meets the requirements of the position.
• Knowledge of HRM considered an asset.
• Experience operating a pick-up truck or panel van is considered an asset.
• Must have good organizational skills
• Must have reliable access to transportation (or be able to use of Public Transportation) to get to and from work
• Demonstrated ability to trouble shoot and problem solve in a fast-paced, stressful working environment.
• Must have above average communication skills
• Must have supervision or leadership experience
• Knowledge of how to use power tools considered an asset.
• Screening through the Child Abuse Registry and a Police Records Check (with vulnerable sector check)
• Reference Checks

WORK STATUS: Casual/Seasonal, Expected start date for these positions is May 2nd, 2022.

HOURS OF WORK: Monday to Friday 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Some weekends may be required

SALARY: Non-Union, $14 per hour (plus 4% vacation pay)
