Taitara Mahi – Educator
Fixed-term until June 2023
Hastings City Art Gallery is looking for a new member of the team. If you are enthusiastic about teaching and learning in a gallery context, you may have what it takes to be our Education and Public Programme Specialist. We are looking for a capable, enthusiastic, and driven person who is passionate to work with ākonga and develop relationship with schools and ECE providers.
You will be an integral part of the team, involved in projects and exhibitions and all gallery activity. You will be responsible for planning and delivering a range of education programmes in line with the gallery’s ELC Ministry of Education contract from early childhood through to secondary school groups and other education providers (tertiary and community groups). You will also assist with developing and delivering public programmes.

To be successful in this role you will have:
The successful candidate will be outgoing, friendly and positive with the confidence to take a lead in their role. A strong interest and experience in the contemporary visual arts is vital.
An understanding or willingness to learn Māori cultural values, tikanga and te reo, and the ability to apply these in your teaching practice is also essential. Your knowledge and understanding of Te Whāriki the National Curriculum and/or Te Marautanga o Aotearoa will be an advantage to this position.
You will also have competent computer skills. A teaching background is desirable but not essential. Drivers Licence essential.
This role has a fixed term of 8 months (until June 2023) and is 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday and with occasional weekend duties. Hastings City Art Gallery is part of the Community Wellbeing & Services Group within Hastings District Council.
