Job Summary and Qualifications
Position Objective:
Performs all routine diagnostic, therapeutic, and monitoring of Respiratory Care modality’s as ordered by physicians. Coordinates respiratory care with other health care team members as needed to facilitate quality patient care.
Patient Population Served :
The Respiratory Care Practitioner, RCP, is expected to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on the physical ability, intellectual development, psychosocial, education, and safety needs of the neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patient in Respiratory Care.
Essential Position Functions :
Performs setup, delivery, and evaluation of effects of all routine Respiratory Care therapeutic and diagnostic modality’s.
Performs advanced diagnostic and therapeutic modality’s with documented training and experience. Performs setup, maintenance, and monitoring of mechanical ventilation.
Recommends changes in therapy related to pulmonary and cardiovascular monitoring, assessment, and response to therapy.
Performs advanced ventilator care and respiratory ICU crisis management. Performs the essential skills of Neonatal and Pediatric respiratory critical care.
Inspects and tests all RC equipment to insure proper operating condition prior to use on patients. Follows all safety, infection control, and equipment usage protocols as per policy.
Provides instructions to patients and family as needed pertaining to therapeutic modality’s.
Performs, documents, and adjusts RC diagnostic equipment, including the Blood Gas Laboratory, to maintain an effective quality control, corrective action, and maintenance program.
Assists in data gathering for RC department PI programs.
May perform some functions of the Lead Therapist with documented training and/or experience.
Documents therapeutic/diagnostic modality’s and RC duties in patient medical record and/or department files as applicable.

Regularly attends RC department meetings to aid in education, communication, and team building. Insures confidentiality of patient records.
Provides courteous customer service.
May be required to set-up and perform PFT Lab diagnostic tests to include complete Pulmonary Function Tests, Bronchial Challenge, Cardio-Pulmonary Stress Tests, Metabolic/Nutrition Testing, and other diagnostic tests as developed.
Non-Essential Position Functions :
Volunteers for hospital or departmental activities.
Performs other duties as developed, assigned, or as judgment or necessity dictates. Position Qualifications:
Minimum requirements: Graduate from an AMA approved Respiratory Care program, AS or BS. Must hold CRT or RRT credentials . Must have Respiratory Care Practitioner, RCP, license for New Hampshire.
BLS, ACLS and PALS required. ACLS required within 60 days of hire. PALS required within 90 days of hire. NRP desired.
Maintains patient and departmental confidentiality.
Demonstrates ability to assume responsibility, set priorities, exercises initiative and judgment, makes decisions within the scope of assigned authority and possesses organizational skills.
What qualifications you will need:
Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
Certified Respiratory Therapy Technician (CRTT)
Licensed Respiratory Therapist
Vocational School Graduate
