POSITION SUMMARY:

The Sterile Processing Technician functions under the supervision of a SPD Supervisor or a covering OR Charge Nurse and performs delegated functions. Assumes responsibility for the decontamination of equipment and surgical instruments, assembly of surgical instruments and proper use of Plasma and Steam sterilizers. Observes Universal precautions and practices correct procedures to prevent the contamination of supplies, and follows event related sterility procedures. Follows hospital and nursing service policies, protocols and procedures in the completion of duties. Completes a competency skills checklist within three months of employment.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
One year experience as a Sterile Processing Technician or Surgical Technician required

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Graduate from High School or equivalent program. Certification from an accredited Sterile Processing Technician or Surgical Technician program preferred**

LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS:
N/A

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Requires a high level of math and reasoning is required. Requires the ability to learn multiple specialties and multi-task. Complies with hospital employee health, infection control, and safety management programs.
