Summary Serve as a Medical Support Assistant (Billing) for the Phoenix Indian Medical Center (PIMC) Division of Financial Services located in Phoenix, AZ. This position is located in the Third Party Billing section of the Patient Business Services department. The incumbent will report to the Billing Supervisor. The Medical Support Assistant is responsible for claims upon receiving, until claim has been paid by Third Party Payor. Responsibilities Receives and examines alternate resources claims to assure claims are complete with appropriate supporting documents which typically include utilization review certifications. Verifies accuracy of health claim number that claimed amounts are authorized, and that items of services billed are allowed by appropriate regulations, decisions, directives, and other controlling guides. Batches bills and prepares amount of all bills and listings of patient’s names for submission to insurance companies. Serves as contact person relative to any questions or problems with claims processing and coding problems. Provides technical assistance with processing and maintaining coding, abstraction of the complete chart (outpatient) and compliance enforcement of all regulatory requirements. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-0962-07: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples include: knowledge of the Resource Patient Management System (RPMS), ICD Coding, Medical Billing, Collections, Alternate Resources, Current Procedural Terminology (CPT), Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS). MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-0962-08: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples include: performing independent analysis and problem solving to develop appropriate information and evidence timely to generating third party alternate resources claims; tracking insurance claims and payments in all levels of examination and maintenance of data in processing alternate resources reimbursement. TYPING PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENT: In addition to meeting experience or education requirements, applicants must provide evidence of their typing proficiency of 40 words per minute typing speed based on a 5-minute sample from a school or other organization authorized to issue such certificates. Certificates must not be over three (3) years old. This agency accepts self-certifications. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement. Education There are no education requirements. Additional Information Per IHS policy (SGM 21-04) and E.O. 14043, IHS selectees must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 before entry on duty or have IHS approve a medical or religious exemption. If an exemption is approved then wearing a face mask is required. Regular testing for COVID-19 will be required for staff located in federally operated hospitals, health centers, and clinics. Your Human Resources Specialist will provide a list of documents acceptable as vaccination proof and instructions for submitting a request for a legally required exception, if needed. Additional selection(s) of candidates may be possible within 240 days from the date the certificate of eligibles was issued for this announcement. Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. This position is covered by a Bargaining Unit. This position has promotion potential to the GS-08 grade level. Promotion to the next grade level is at management’s discretion and is based on your demonstrated ability to perform the higher level duties, the continuing need for the higher level duties, and “Regulatory/Administrative” approval.
