The Role:

The ideal Employee Relations Specialist will have 3 – 5 years of employee relations experience in a large, diverse company. This person will have demonstrated proficiency in employee and/or labor relations strategy. Possesses the ability to work at a high level of autonomy to manage ongoing issues and complex employee relations matters. Has the capability to build strong working relationships across all levels of the organization. Be able to objectively coach employees and management through difficult and emotional issues. Assists with administrative duties and benefits administration as needed.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement policies, programs and procedures related to Employee Relations.
• Develop and administer progressive discipline policy and procedures.
• Review and approve employee disciplinary actions.
• Develop and interpret personnel policies consistent with the Departmental Leadership.
• Ensure employee handbook reflects current policy.
• Record performance and disciplinary issues, working closely with managers and supervisors.
• Conduct training for supervisors related to progressive discipline and involuntary separations.
• Investigate all complaints of misconduct and unacceptable behaviors in the workplace
• Conduct other investigations as directed by Departmental Leadership.
• Review and approve involuntary terminations consistent with company policies and procedures.
• Participate in legal and unemployment hearings to provide testimony and documentation on proceedings.
• Prepare written materials for documentation and conveying information.
• Consult and advise management to ensure compliance with legal and administrative requirements

Ideal Qualifications:

• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Thorough understanding of state and federal laws concerning labor relations.
• Ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply the appropriate sections of applicable laws, guidelines, regulations, ordinances, and policies.
• Thorough understanding of negotiation techniques.
• Thorough understanding of dispute resolution and compensation administration.
• Ability to remain tactful, calm, and persuasive in controversial and/or confrontational situations.
