We have two permanent Third Mate positions available with Interislander!

Your role:

The Third Mate is responsible for undertaking navigational watches whilst at sea and will assist with loading and discharging the vessel while in port.

• Safe navigation of the vessel while on watch.

• Assists with the stability and seaworthiness of the vessel while on duty
• Plans and supervises the loading and discharge of the vessel ensuring it is carried out in a safe and efficient manner
• Ensures all cargo is properly secured
• Ensures dangerous goods are stowed in accordance with IMDG code
• Responsible for the efficient utilisation of deck crew and machinery

• Responsible for making sure that all lifesaving and firefighting equipment is in good working order. Carries out maintenance and inspections as required

This is a fantastic opportunity for you to prove your maritime skills and experience in a position that is crucial to the working of the team and the overall ship. As such you will be a team player, flexible and capable of working at a quick pace to meet the needs of the operation. A strong focus on customer service is important whilst on board and delivering key tasks in a timely manner to ensure smooth sailings is fundamental. Safety and Compliance is paramount.

The ability to do both Walk on Walk off OR Live on Board would be preferable.

Your Skills:

• OOW Foreign Going Certificate or a Certificate of Competency SCTW A-II/1 capable of being recognised by the New Zealand Maritime Authorities
• Current Maritime Medical certificate

• Ideally a minimum of 1 years’ experience in an officer position is desirable. Preference will also be given to candidates with recent Bridge watchkeeping experience
• Ideally experience in roll-on-roll-off passenger ferry is desirable
• A high level of knowledge and experience complying with Maritime safety standards and regulations
• Attention to detail and high standards of Health and Safety practices
