The posts are 5 days per week corporate term time and are permanent position.
Previous experience of working within children and young people services as an individual or as part of a team. Working in demanding environment and meeting tight deadlines. Must have knowledge and understanding of the current legislation and policy for school attendance, including legal sanctions for non-school attendance. A knowledge and understanding of current child protection and safeguarding procedures. Competent user of ICT including Microsoft Word and Outlook.
The post is based within the School Admissions, Attendance and Inclusions Team. There is a strong team ethos across the service area with everyone working together in support of vulnerable children and young people.
The post of an Education Welfare Officer is to work in close collaboration with schools, academies, governing bodies and other statutory and voluntary agencies to support parents and children to maximise their educational opportunities by promoting good attendance. Operating within the Councils statutory attendance duty as well as contributing towards the Havering Education Traded Service developments. A key role in the delivery of a highly effective education welfare support as well as working to improve outcomes for children and young people. Responsible for holding caseloads, carrying out high-quality attendance assessment and ensuring the welfare, safeguarding and protection of children in the borough.
The post will be on the London Borough of Havering’s Terms and Conditions. However, both posts will be based at Town Hall in London Borough of Havering or working remotely.
