Education Improvement Adviser SEND (cross phase) Full time 1 year fixed term contract in the first instance

Please note: The salary range for this post is £48,230-£52,353. Once you are in post, you will have the opportunity to gain up to 3 SPA points, should you meet the criteria.

We are looking for an Education Improvement Lead specialising in Primary and Special schools to deliver a professional and efficient service for the borough.

About the role

You will be an expert representative of the Council’s views and decisions.

As the Education Improvement Adviser for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, you will be responsible for the local authority’s work strand in challenging and supporting a group of link schools across all phases, working as a lead member of the Education Improvement and Partnership Service at the London Borough of Hillingdon. You will provide a front-line lead role in establishing and maintaining a strong working relationship with school leaders and academies; working together to deliver excellent outcomes for Hillingdon learners.

Identifying and planning intervention to support schools in providing the best support to their children with SEND will be key to the role. You will work closely with the local authority SEND teams to support schools. In addition, you will maintain an accurate and up to date database on the performance of schools and pupils.

In this role you will lead and take responsibility in local projects and be line-managed by the Head of Education Improvement Partnerships.

As the post holder, you will continuously refresh expertise and skill sets to meet the new challenge presented by the changed education landscape, which will also help you in your continuous professional development. You will identify and implement new ways of working to support sustainable improvement in the link schools you are supporting and manage the implementation of improvement initiatives and change programmes using the Council’s Project Management and Service Improvement methodologies.

About you

We are looking for someone who has qualified teacher status and is working as a Headteacher or a member of a school’s Senior Management Team in the phase or strand of education comparable to this post.

Excellent knowledge of SEND provision in schools and settings in a key requirement. Experience of successful use of a range of data to inform school development planning and an excellent understanding of school improvement and school self-evaluation are essential for this role.

You will already possess the ability and be able to demonstrate experience in delivering high quality training to a range of audiences, in particular school leaders.

In your current role you will be successfully building and developing partnerships with school leaders. We do require you to have the ability to inspire teachers, senior managers, governors, and colleagues and be able to advise them with your in-depth expert knowledge and understanding of the current issues impacting on provision in the primary phase and special schools.

A knowledge and understanding of current and recent initiatives from DFE, Ofsted and other national agencies connected to primary school education and special schools is vital.
