Library, Archive & Open Research Services is seeking an enthusiastic and innovative individual to staff the Library in the late evenings during term-time and undertake various projects in support of the service. Duties include providing services to users from the Enquiries Desk and undertaking projects relating to Open Research Services. The successful candidate will have proven experience working successfully in a library, and demonstrable knowledge of issues relating to the delivery of library services.
Applicants should have a recognised degree or equivalent qualification. They should possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be service oriented. Excellent organisational skills, IT skills, the ability to work as part of a team and to take responsibility are also essential.
The post is part-time, 0.219FTE and permanent. The post holder is required to work 32 weeks/15 weekends during term time, 20.00-23.00 Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays and 16.30-20.00 on alternate weekends (both Saturday and Sunday). They will not usually be required to work during vacations or the Library’s summer hours. The post holder is required to work 16.30-20.00 on the May Bank-Holiday Monday (early May) and the Spring Bank-Holiday Monday (late May). With the exception of Wednesdays, bank holidays and the last weekend before June exams (when both late evening Library Assistants are on duty) the post holder is the sole person on-duty in the Library in the evenings (Security staff are on duty in the building) and is responsible for closing the Library at the appointed time.
The salary will be on the Professional Services scale Grade 3 in the range £26,974-£30,453 pro rata (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro-rata for part-time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Wellbeing Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available. The post is based in London.
