POSITION SUMMARY:
Our Detroit Michigan Refinery is looking for a Refining Mechanical Reliability Engineer who will maintain and improve refinery on-stream operational availability and utilization through adherence to and support of established procedures and good engineering practices, including elements of predictive and preventative maintenance. The engineer’s activities will reactively solve and address equipment threats to maintain business continuity while helping to proactively identify equipment “bad-actors” for equipment improvement opportunities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supports Area Team
Maintain and improve reliability and equipment integrity to maximize on-stream availability and ensure safe equipment operation; provides first response for engineering needs for assigned area; consults with Area Team and appropriate discipline engineering personnel during daily activities.
Provide daily Operations and Maintenance support through collaboration with refinery areas (e.g. attends daily Area Ops/Maintenance meetings, etc.); provides troubleshooting and reactive maintenance engineering support utilizing MPC & site engineering standards.
Provide training, guidance, or feedback as needed to support operations and maintenance team members in appropriate operation (including start up, shut down, and preparation for maintenance) of critical equipment.
Generate and manage MOCs (Management of Change) per MPC corporate and site-standards within their assigned work; signs off on PSSRs as appropriate.
Provide turnaround and refinery unit outage scope input. Supports engineering activities during turnaround and outages, as assigned.
Responsible for design and construction support for maintenance work orders for assigned area.
Maintain files, procedures and practices within their assigned areas.
Maintain working knowledge of applicable specifications, codes, repair standards and installation requirements for equipment.
Develop and execute procurement requests of engineered equipment for replacements-in-kind and minor upgrades; participates in receipt inspection when equipment is received to ensure equipment is as-specified; resolves all receipt inspection issues when found.
Coordinate within their assigned area on sustaining, reliability, safety or environmental work/projects.
Drives Long Term Reliability
Identify and manage a list of threats/bad actors and drives short term and long-term improvement plans.
Develop Project Request Forms (PRFs) for reliability improvements and champions those through completion.
Perform root cause failure analyses on equipment, documents the Continuous Improvement Plans (CIPs), and implements corrective actions.
Utilize available tools to identify, quantify, and analyze reliability threats, and measure reliability improvements (Meridium, SAP, GE APM).
Support/participate in reliability investigations, corrosion studies, RCA studies, etc.
Develops Self
Ensure all training, KMS, IDMS, and other time-based items are completed by due date.
Maintain professional licenses & certifications as appropriate (e.g. Professional Engineering Licenses, certifications, etc.) as well as working knowledge of all applicable industry and company standards (RSPs and Core Specifications).
Identify opportunities for continued professional development in areas specific to individuals interests while aligned with their unique career path.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineer required.
Must be proficient in Microsoft: Word, Excel and Outlook.
Must be able perform the job duties which include 50% office and 50% field work. Must be able to wear PPE and climb ladders and stairs.
Clean and valid driver’s license required.
Two years experience in a refinery, petro-chemical or other related heavy industry preferred.
