SUMMARY

Drives liquefied gas powered or electric powered industrial truck equipped with lifting devices such as forklift and clamps to lift, stack, tier, rotate or move products, equipment, or materials.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Promotes and adheres to company safety work rules and regulations.
• Operates and understands the function of a forklift.
• Moves tote bins to and from designated areas.
• Replaces battery or fills propane tank on gas-powered hyster as needed.
• Completes necessary paperwork.
• Dumps waste tote bins into truck for removal from plant area.
• Breaks down and stacks empty cardboard tote bins on pallets.
• Sorts’ pallets and discards of the unusable ones.
• Operates the cardboard compactor.
• Removes garbage from designated areas.
• Cleans assigned areas.
• Unloads freight trucks and delivers items to other departments as needed.
• Attends and participates in all annual, departmental, and job specific required training and monthly informational meetings.
• Communicates problems or changes in department to supervisor or appropriate personnel.
• Keeps work area clean and orderly in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s).
• Understands and adheres to the concepts and techniques of the quality process in order to ensure a quality operation.
• Helps build and promote a strong “Teamwork” environment in each individual work group, the Factory, and the Company.
• Participates in continuous improvement process.

• The employee may be required to successfully complete the orientation and training provided during the first ninety- (90) days of employment.

SCOPE OF AUTHORITY

• Responsibility to monitor work areas, watch for suspicious behavior and report any concerns regarding unidentified visitors and/or unauthorized personnel.
• Authority to question and take appropriate measures regarding the safety of themselves, other employees, products, and equipment.
• Responsibility of maintaining a high standard of cleanliness throughout the food processing facility, especially where any raw or finished product is produced.
• Authority to report and/or eliminate hazards to the safety of the food that is produced in the facility.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Less than high school education; or up to one month related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

• Valid State Driver’s License
• Valid McCain Foods Forklift Operator’s License.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, and vibration. The employee frequently works in high, precarious places and is frequently exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and extreme heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Carrying: Occasionally 1-33% from 6-30 lbs.) for a distance of 5-30 ft.

Horizontal reaching: : Frequently (34-66%) 12-22 inch reach.

Vertical reach height: Frequently (34-66%). Ranges from floor to above shoulder.

Fine manipulation: Operating forklift and handling individual boxes.

Hand Use: Requires use of both hands (Continuously 66- 100%)

• Sensory requirements:

Visual acuity and alertness. Required of aligning cases in required fashion either on stacking aids or trailer/boxcar floor, for identifying problems and for safety due to moving equipment.

Speech/communication/hearing. Required ability to inform supervisor or operator of problems. Requires ability to listen and follow any special instructions relating to safety or job performance. Touch. Must be able to use fingers to grasp objects, operation of forklift, etc.

Occasionally requires individual to be in awkward positions. Caution is required when working around equipment including stacking aids and forklift to keep hands clear of moving parts when removing jams and correcting placement of cases. Proper body mechanics need to be practiced whether lifting, pushing, sweeping, bending, stooping, crouching, etc.
