Mervis Industries Hiring for Switchman at Decatur, IL Full Time

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION: The primary function of this position is to switch railcars within the yard which consists of weighing the cars and placing the cars on the proper tracks for loading or unloading. In the course of these duties, the employee will be expected to climb ladders and lift pieces of scrap that might weigh up to 50 lbs. In addition, the switchman will inspect outbound railcar shipments, assist in loading railcar parts, and maintain walkways along the tracks.

DUTIES:

1. Weigh railcars and place the cars on the proper tracks for loading or unloading.

2. Inspect outbound railcar and truck shipments.

3. Assist in loading railcar parts

4. Maintain walkways along the tracks

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Drug Free

2. Unblemished work and attendance record

3. The strength and flexibility to lift and move up to 50 lbs.

4. The agility to climb ladders

5. Knowledge of Railroad Safe Work Practices

6. Familiar with rail switches and tracks

7. Safe operation of the Trackmobile

8. Knowledge of scrap specifications

SPECIFIC SKILLS:

1. Specific training as a switchman

2. Capable of operating heavy equipment

3. Knowledge of Railroad Safe Work Practices

EXPERIENCE NEEDED:

1. Experience in switching railcars

2. Knowledge of scrap specifications

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $17.00 per hour
