Position Summary This position will maintain relationships with faculty, scientists, students, management, and staff involved in animal use activities across MSU’s colleges and farms to ensure humane animal care and use. They will review and monitor all animal research and teaching activities to assure compliance with approved procedures and all applicable regulations; conduct site visits/inspections of investigator labs and animal housing facilities; submit written reports to the IACUC. The IACUC Research Liaison is a member of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) and is part of the management team who reviews and assesses the Animal Care Program; develops and maintains databases; schedules and coordinates inspections; writes reports and develops corrective actions and follow-up; and serves as resource for regulations, policies, procedures and training for scientists, staff, animal care personnel. In the position, the IACUC Research Liaison will network with professionals across the U.S. and internationally to develop best practices for animal welfare and regulatory compliance. Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills This job requires knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completion of a four-year degree program in a scientific field, preferably biological or animal sciences; five to eight years of related and progressively more responsible and expansive work experience using and handling live animals in a research laboratory, quality assurance or regulatory affairs; knowledge of veterinary medical practices such as anesthesia, aseptic technique, and drug administration as well as recognition of normal animal behavior and appropriate handling of laboratory animals; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Desired Qualifications Excellent communication skills: Training/degree in a field related to animal science/health; knowledge of quality assurance and regulatory affairs; comfortable working with Microsoft office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), learning management programs, and ability to navigate other software systems.
