Position Summary The Office of the Associate Provost of Undergraduate Education (APUE) seeks a Data Analyst with an equity mindset, a passion for problem solving, and a commitment to student success to support initiatives within the unit. This position will work closely and collaboratively with the extended data analytics and assessment team within the APUE division, the leadership of the units within the division, as well as APUE partner units across campus. There may be the option for this position to be remote or hybrid, in line with the Remote Friendly policy of Michigan State University. The APUE division oversees undergraduate education and facilitates institution-wide initiatives focused on enhancing undergraduate learning and student success. APUE is comprised of direct student support programs like Migrant Student Services, New Student Orientation, and NSSC Pathway programs; Academic Support and Curriculum units like Academic Advising, First Year Seminars, Military Science, and Aerospace Studies; and campus-wide student success initiatives. We are committed to closing opportunity gaps for underserved students (first generation, low income, Black, Latinx, Native American/Indigenous, LGBTQI2S+, etc.) to reach our goal of an 86% graduation rate with no opportunity gaps by 2030. The successful candidate will have strong analytics and project management skills to support retrieving, merging, analysis, reporting, and visualization of data for the unit. They will support recurring and ad-hoc data requests from APUE units. The candidate will be required to query against a variety of data sources, merge different data sources together, analyze complex datasets, create visualizations of findings, develop reports of results, and make recommendations to APUE leadership for planning and decision-making as it relates to unit and university strategic plans for undergraduate education and DEI. Specific Duties: Apply and advocate for best practices with respect to DEI and student data Support research and assessment needs within APUE and its units Query and blend multiple databases composed of a variety of student data Perform descriptive statistical techniques, where appropriate Assist in data collection projects related to undergraduate education and student success Prepare reports and presentations on findings, when needed Disseminate research findings and recommendations to a variety of audiences using oral, written, and visual communication strategies Collaborate on the preparation of reports, white papers, and manuscripts for internal audiences, publication, and grant proposals Team with APUE partner units on collaborative initiatives and projects Maintain security and confidentiality in line with APUE, MSU, and FERPA policies Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills The job requires: knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing one or two years of post-bachelor degree work, such as a Master”s in Educational Administration, Statistics, Economics, Data Science, or related field; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in statistical methods or data management and analysis; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Specific required qualifications: Strong evidence of a commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice Knowledge of theories and practice related to student success, retention, and graduation Experience with database querying using Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle SQL Developer, or Microsoft Access Proficiency with statistical software packages such as SPSS, STATA, SAS, or R Advanced skills with Microsoft Excel, as well as familiarity with other Office software Familiarity with Campus Solutions
