Are you passionate about technology and ready to bring your experiences to work on cutting edge legal, business, and technology issues?Microsoft’s Marketing & Consumer Business Legal team is looking for a talented attorney to support our Education Marketing team along with centralized functions, including Trademarks, Public Relations, Events and Research. You’ll be an integral part of the business teams you support, giving input on business strategy, in addition to providing day-to-day legal counsel on a broad range of domestic and international issues, including trademarks, advertising law, consumer protection, publicity rights, intellectual property, antitrust and privacy.
This position can be located in Redmond, WA or remote within the U.S., with a Redmond location preferred.
Responsibilities
Advise Microsoft’s Education Marketing team on all aspects of go to market strategy, including reviewing SKU, pricing and licensing plans; evaluating claims and substantiation; drafting and negotiating marketing agreements, intellectual property licenses and releases; counseling on promotional offers; and reviewing product packaging
Provide guidance on a variety of legal and business issues related to public relations and events, including reviewing press releases and presentation materials; drafting speaker and intellectual property licenses and releases; and reviewing and counseling on location agreements
Review and advise on issues related to marketing research, such as data privacy; competitive intelligence and participant incentives
Respond to regulatory investigations and complaints related to advertising and other consumer protection issues
Act as the primary trademark attorney and trusted advisor for one or more product groups and their associated legal teams and advise on a broad range of strategic trademark matters (including worldwide clearance and prosecution, licensing, and dispute resolution); identify opportunities for policy and advocacy outreach and develop Microsoft’ position on key trademark policy matters
Coordinate work with outside counsel globally and oversee efficient use of budget allocation
Develop and implement processes, templates and best practices to streamline delivery of legal services and share knowledge across the legal department
Design and conduct client legal training
Qualifications
A J.D. or equivalent from an accredited law school, an active license to practice law
At least 3 years’ experience practicing law with substantial experience in trademark law
Flexible and analytical thinker with strong organizational, written and oral communication skills, with the ability to quickly and accurately identify legal issues in a complex environment and to develop solutions by exercising solid judgment in ambiguous situations
A bias for action and demonstrated ability to work independently and efficiently, meet demanding deadlines, prioritize workflow and adjust to frequent workload fluctuations
A global mindset and proven ability to work with teams and businesses across multiple cultures and geographies is preferred
