Team Manager, Operations (Food Safety)

Kōrero mō te Tūranga – About the Role
The Team Manager will guide and lead the Operations team whose key responsibilities are the processing and assessment of applications under the ACVM Act, Animal Products Act, the Wine Act, the Food Act and Organics Act. You will encourage and guide the advisers to reach their KPI’s to meet the business objectives.
The Operations team works closely across the Appraisals and the ACVM technical teams, the Biosecurity border control staff, and works closely with other internal MPI stakeholders. You will have the ability to build trusted relationships with those stakeholders within MPI and with industry, be results focused, and be able to work in a fast moving, agile environment.
This role will need to provide functional leadership on a day-to-day basis. The development of the members of the Operations team is a key focus for this role.
You will also play a robust part supporting the Manager Approvals, to drive the wider team to a more customer centric approach ensuring the value of the customer is at the centre of all our processes.

Mō tō mātou Rōpū – About the Team
The Operations Team includes members whose key responsibilities are the pre and post processing and para-technical assessment of applications made by external parties, under the Agriculture Compounds & Veterinary Medicines Act, Animal Products Act, Wine Act, Food Act, and the Organics Act. In addition to this legislation, you will have oversight of the Country Listings Team Leader, and the work involved in ensuring that listings are processed in timely manner.
We are are Wellington based team made up of diverse, astute young graduates whom their first real fulltime employment is within MPI. There are currently 14 staff within this team whom report directly to the Team Manager, however, the team will be split in the future with some reporting to a Team Leader. The team work hard and well together, and support each other implicitly. They are a great bunch who enjoy each other’s company and often coffee or lunch together.

The role supports MPI’s strategy in terms of prosperity in ensuring applications are managed in a timely manner, to ensure exporters, via market access requirements are not delayed and the processing of food approvals meet our KPI’s.
