At Manatū Hauora we are the kaitiaki of the health system, providing leadership and driving strategy and performance. We regulate the health sector and are the primary source of advice on health matters. As we move away from the response to the Covid pandemic now is the time to look to the future, to ensure New Zealanders are cared for by a health system that is innovative, future focussed and world leading.

Ko tōu ake mahi – What You’ll Do

Your portfolio of work will reflect your strengths – we have some flexibility since demand for economic advice always outstrips supply. You will flourish in an environment where your portfolio is varied, and includes the usual business of a public sector organisation (e.g. OIAs), as well as responsive advice on particular issues (e.g. on ways of measuring health sector inflation), and proactive analytical work (e.g. on the economic impact of the health and disability system).

You will also have a commitment to analytical excellence. This is not a research position, nonetheless we do some empirical work to inform particular projects. If this is your passion and you have advanced analytical skills, e.g. in applied econometrics, we can support this by building it into your portfolio of work.

You will be used to working as part of a team, in a large organisation with the usual corporate reporting processes.

To be successful in this role you will need to have good prioritisation and time-management skills. You will be self-aware and able to work with and influence a range of different types of people.

• Several years of post-university work experience, preferably in large organisations where you have had to “sell” your work to non-economists
• a passion for building understanding about economics, and influencing non-economists
• strong analytical skills and a keen interest in keeping abreast of economic evidence and methods
• the ability to work quickly and give real-time advice to decision makers, even with only partial information
• a commitment to working in a team.
