Job Description

Our Wellington team is seeking an experienced Principal Geotechnical Engineer who wants to take the next step with a growing consultancy, using their skills to help shape the communities in which we live.
Your Opportunity
In your role as a senior member of the broader geotechnical team, you will take on the responsibility of mentoring staff and collaborating with various teams in ANZ, offering support across our diverse sectors including Transport, Built Environment, Water, Energy and Advisory. With exceptional communication and presentation abilities, you will actively participate in client meetings and take charge of managing the client interface for significant projects.
Moreover, you will play a crucial part in assisting the ANZ Geotechnical Practice Leader by identifying and securing geotechnical opportunities, both within the organisation and externally. Your contribution will be vital in further developing and enhancing the geotechnical services offered across ANZ.

Your Responsibilities
In this varied role, you will develop connections with internal and external clients, fostering effective communication and collaboration throughout projects. You’ll also scope and price geotechnical aspects of projects, identify business development opportunities, and work closely with clients to provide valuable insights and guidance during various project stages. Additionally, you’ll advise internal professionals, assist, or lead geotechnical-related projects, apply construction methods knowledge, and ensure quality standards through the preparation and review of reports, design drawings, and specifications. This diverse role offers exciting challenged that contribute to the organisation’s success and growth while expanding your expertise in geotechnical engineering.
About You
We are looking for candidates with a degree in Geotechnical Engineering or Engineering Geology and a proven track record of experience in the Geotechnical discipline. A clean full driving licence is required. Effective technical communication skills are crucial for this role.
Candidates with Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status will be given preference as it demonstrates their expertise and recognition. Expertise in ground characterisation is essential for understanding geological and geotechnical properties. Experience in seismic assessments and design is high valuable, especially for projects in seismically active regions.
Knowledge of NZ design and construction standards is vital to ensure compliance with regulations. Familiarity with geotechnical software like Rocscience suite/Plaxis is advantageous for data analysis. Proficiency in project management is essential for handling complex projects efficiently.
Having a well-developed sense of engineering risk is crucial for identifying and mitigating hazards. Understanding commercial risk is important for making informed decisions. We encourage innovative thinking to find creative solutions for geotechnical challenges.
