Napier City Council Looking for Finance Accountant at Napier, Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand Full Time

Napier City Council are seeking a Finance Accountant on a fixed term basis (12 months) who will contribute to the effective delivery of Council and Council Controlled Organisations (CCO) financial transactions; compliance with all statutory, tax and legislative compliance that is consistent with Council strategies, policies and procedures.

As another key member of the Finance team which sits within our Corporate Directorate, you will be involved in tracking business performance and provide operational reports to our Executive Team and Councilors. You will assist in auditing, preparation of external financial reports just to name a few.

Additional Responsibilities will include:

• Assist with the preparation and consolidation of the financial requirements for the Annual Report, Annual Plan and Long Term Plan
• Coordination of asset assessment and valuation as required each year to ensure compliance with relevant financial reporting standards
• Completion of Statistics New Zealand surveys and other external data requests and reports as required
• Processing of all transactions in MYOB and reconciliation thereof
• Preparation and filing of GST
• Responsible for the delivery of the Annual Report that meets all required legislative requirements and coordination of the external audit of the Annual Report
• Ensure all GST, FBT and other tax obligations for Council and CCOs are completed in a timely and accurate manner
• Contribute to the ongoing development of a high performing and competent team.

To be considered for this role, you will have:

• Accounting or Commerce degree or equivalent
• CA qualified or currently working towards obtaining this
• 5-6 years relevant experience in a senior accounting position
• Advanced knowledge of financial accounting
• Thorough knowledge of financial systems
• Excellent understanding of financial accounting concepts and ability to advise on systems and processes
