Salary:
Lecturer Grade F: £32,348 to £42,155 per annum
Lecturer Grade G: £43,414 to £51,805 per annum

The Role
The School of Education, Communication and Language Sciences is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Education with expertise and experience of teaching within the Primary age phase. The successful applicant will join a committed, flexible and innovative team, making a significant contribution to the delivery, management and development of the University’s Primary Initial Teacher Education (ITE) Programmes. They will also have a knowledge and understanding of contemporary research and development in the field of primary education from a national and international perspective. The successful applicant will act as a tutor for students across our PGCE programmes. They will contribute, as appropriate, to teaching, tutoring and supervising within the suite of education programmes offered within the school of ECLS.

Key Accountabilities To design and deliver high quality teaching and learning to students in line with ECLS and University teaching objectives To make a significant contribution to the planning, teaching, marking, assessment and development of modules within the Primary PGCE programmes To teach specific sessions and contribute to the curriculum development of a key subject within Primary education To provide academic tutorial and pastoral support as a tutor for groups of students following the Primary ITE programmes To observe, supervise and support the progression of trainee teachers on school-based placements To undertake quality assurance during school-based placement visits To provide induction and training for school-based subject mentors To contribute to the recruitment and selection of Primary trainee teachers To make a contribution to programmes in Education, including Masters supervision To evaluate all areas of own practice and undertake continuing professional development To contribute to the administration and leadership of Primary PGCE programmes as appropriate to experience To undertake academic, scholarly and allocated administrative duties as required by the Head of School
The Person
Knowledge, Skills and Experience Possesses sufficient breadth of specialist knowledge and subject pedagogy to teach across a range of subjects within the Primary phase Professional knowledge gained from successful experience of teaching in a Primary phase setting Successful experience of acting as a school-based tutor, mentor or coach to support or lead professional development for trainee teachers and/or experienced teachers Ability to inspire students and fellow colleagues through the development and delivery of high-quality effective teaching and learning High levels of organisational and administrative skills
Desirable Knowledge of current priorities and developments in Primary teaching and learning /or initial teacher education, including the Core Content Framework (Essential) and Early Career Framework Experience of middle or senior leadership in educational context Professional knowledge gained from experience of teaching and assessment in Higher Education Experience of project leadership, including budgeting Experience of undertaking educational scholarship research, including publishing in peer reviewed journals and/or professional practice journals.

Qualifications An appropriate professional teaching qualification, e.g. Qualified Teacher Status, PGCE Good Honours Degree BA, BSc in a relevant subject area
